Glucose management is the secret to health for many reasons. The difference between a type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic individual, is the major health problems that result in premature aging, are much higher in people with impaired glucose tolerance. As fat accumulates, especially in the abdominal area, insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance worsens. This can lead to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. The combination of insulin resistance and abdominal obesity is known as metabolic syndrome. Florida being the sunshine state has an advantage for residents, they get plenty of vitamin D daily. A low serum level of vitamin D is associated with peripheral artery disease. There is growing evidence that adequate vitamin D levels are cardio protective.
